At the 2023 Golden Globes, Rihanna made a sparkling appearance on Tuesday (Jan. 10). Although she didn’t win an award, she gave three of her high-profile admirers the opportunity to have a moment with her.
As the presenter for the award for actress in a television series – musical or comedy, Niecy Nash took the time to tell Rihanna that she was her inspiration for spooky season. This comment got the attention of all the people in the room, including the nominees, who were Selena Gomez for Only Murders in the Building.
Nash declared his love for Rihanna before revealing that Quinta Brunson was the winner for Abbott Elementary, and that he “just had to take his moment.” Billy Porter then chimed in, expressing that he would have dressed up as Rihanna for Halloween if he believed in it. Following a commercial break, host Ricky Carmichael also had a special moment for Rihanna, urging her to ignore the pressure from the internet and take as much time as she needs on her album.
Fans of the nine-time Grammy-winning artist have been jokingly speculating about her studio album for a long time. However, in 2022, she released the single “Lift Me Up” for the Black Panther: Wakanda Forever soundtrack, which was nominated for the Best Original Song in a Motion Picture at the Academy Awards. Despite the nomination, it lost to “Naatu Naatu” from the movie RRR.
Rihanna seemed to take the jokes in good spirits, and has certainly been far from inactive. She is set to headline the Super Bowl halftime show this February, only a few months after giving birth to her first child with A$AP Rocky in May 2022.
